Frequently Asked Questions
Is DeMoulin more expensive than other companies?
DeMoulin uniforms are priced to reflect a higher standard of quality, service, and long-term value.
Each uniform is built using premium fabrics and proven construction techniques designed for durability, performance, and appearance
over many seasons. This includes carefully selected materials, reinforced
construction methods, and attention to detail that supports both visual impact
and long-term wear.
In addition to product quality, every program is supported by a team of full-time Regional Sales Managers who are dedicated solely to servicing and managing customer accounts. This hands-on support helps ensure a
smoother experience from design through delivery and beyond.
DeMoulin also offers one of the strongest warranties in the industry, reinforcing our commitment to long-term product performance and customer confidence.
While pricing may be higher than some competitors, it reflects the combination of superior materials, expert craftsmanship, and dedicated service that supports programs year after year.
How many uniforms should I order beyond my current band size?
We recommend ordering approximately 20-30% more uniforms than your current performing membership.
This allows for future program growth, membership fluctuations, and changes in student body sizing over time.
How much do custom uniforms cost?
Every DeMoulin uniform is built specifically for your program, so pricing varies based on design complexity, fabric selection, construction details, and order quantity.
We recommend establishing a budget range before beginning the design process. Much like building a home, having a clear understanding of your goals and investment range allows our team to recommend options that align with your vision while avoiding unexpected costs.
Our experienced team works with programs of all sizes and budgets, helping directors find the right balance between appearance, performance, and long-term value. Once we understand your program’s needs, we provide a customized quote tailored specifically to your project.
How long does the custom uniform process take?
For best results, we recommend beginning the process at least 9 months before uniforms are needed.
A typical timeline includes:
- Custom Designed Sketches: 1–2 weeks
- Sample production: 3–4 weeks
- Revisions and approvals
- Sizing and order submission
- Production: approximately 180–210 days
In total, most programs should plan for approximately 9 months from initial conversation to final delivery.
Can you match what we already have?
Yes. In many cases, we request a physical sample to ensure the closest possible match to your existing uniforms.
This helps us accurately replicate color, fabric, trim, and construction details, minimizing any variation between existing and new garments.
What construction options do you offer?
We offer three primary construction levels:
- Lightweight – Lightweight and economical
- Midweight – A balance of durability, comfort, and value
- Traditional – Maximum structure and longest-lasting performance option
Each option is designed to support different budgets, performance needs, and longevity expectations.
What does this process look like?
We guide you through every step of the process—from initial design and sampling through sizing, production, and final delivery.
At each stage, we provide clear updates and an estimated timeline so you always know where your order stands and what comes next.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We offer three payment options:
A. School Purchase Order for the full amount
B. One-third deposit by check, with the remaining balance due prior to shipment
C. Payment in full by check at order entry to receive a 3% discount
How long does it take to receive a sample?
Once all details are finalized, samples are typically completed within 3–4 weeks.
Why are custom bibbers more expensive than in-stock bibbers?
In-stock bibbers are produced in bulk and maintained in inventory for immediate purchase.
Custom bibbers are made specifically for your program using your band’s sizing data, providing a more precise fit and a fully coordinated uniform system.
What is your warranty?
DeMoulin offers two warranty options for custom-manufactured garments:
- Limited Lifetime Warranty – for custom garments that are dry clean only
- 10-Year Limited Warranty – for custom garments that are machine washable
All DeMoulin manufactured in-stock products carry a 12-month limited warranty.
With more than 134 years of experience serving music education programs, DeMoulin stands behind the quality and craftsmanship of every uniform we produce. Our warranties are designed to provide peace of mind and help protect your investment season after season.
What are purchasing cooperatives and does DeMoulin participate?
A purchasing cooperative is an organization that competitively bids contracts on behalf of schools and public agencies. This allows districts to purchase approved products and services without completing a separate bidding process.
Programs that participate in cooperatives such as BuyBoard can often streamline approval and purchasing while still meeting local procurement requirements and maintaining compliance with district or state guidelines.
DeMoulin participates in several purchasing cooperatives. Please contact your Regional Sales Manager for additional information and a list of participating cooperatives.
What fabrics are available?
We offer a range of fabric options to meet different performance needs, aesthetics, and durability requirements, including:
- 11.5 oz 100% Polyester (Performin)
- 14.5 oz 100% Synthetic (Rejuvitex)
- 14.5 oz Poly/Wool Blend
- 15.5 oz 100% Wool
Each fabric offers a different balance of weight, appearance, comfort, and long-term durability, allowing programs to select the option that best fits their performance and budget needs.
Are there any discounts available?
DeMoulin offers a 3% discount on custom band uniforms when the entire invoice is paid upfront by check or electronic funds transfer (EFT).
DeMoulin also offers quantity-based discounts for qualifying orders. Please contact your Regional Sales Manager to discuss the available quantity break levels and determine the pricing structure that best fits your program's needs.
What do the numbers on my uniform’s labels mean?
Uniform sizing follows a standardized system that identifies both fit and length to ensure the best possible fit for each student.
For coat sizes, the number represents the chest measurement, and the letter represents the length.
For example, a 38R indicates a 38-inch chest with a “Regular” length.
For bibbers, the sizing includes waist, length, and seat/hip measurements.
The first number is the waist size, the letter indicates length, and the number in parentheses represents the seat/hip measurement.
For example, a 32R (38) indicates a 32-inch waist, “Regular” length, and a 38-inch seat/hip measurement.
This system helps ensure consistent, accurate sizing across your entire uniform ensemble.
